Cambridgeshire’s new Freelance GP Chambers has now been launched and is inviting applications for membership.

NHS Cambridgeshire, Urgent Care Cambridgeshire and lead GP Commissioners in Cambridgeshire, have been working together for several months to develop the scheme.

The Chambers will offer a freelance ‘portfolio’ career for newly qualified and experienced GPs in a structured environment for the transition to a partnership or salaried position in practice, supported by the infrastructure of Urgent Care Cambridgeshire. The Chambers approach will help member GPs meet appraisal and revalidation requirements which can be challenging for locum GPs, whilst still allowing them considerable flexibility.

During the initial pilot stage, there will be a limit on the number of sessions that can be covered and priority will be given to providing support to GP Commissioners. Depending on the number of GPs/Sessions available, the service will expand to provide general locum cover on a phased basis.
